Meet Jesus Where You are…

Where is your relationship with Jesus right now? Are you Best Friends? Acquaintances? Strangers? Estranged? Sometimes it can be hard to identify. The Good News is that Jesus is still right there waiting for you, open arms, comforting smile on His face. He holds no grudges. He keeps no record of wrongs. God’s forgiveness is bigger than any sin, all you have to do is accept it. How do you do that? Good question.

Let’s make a metaphor or something… a parable maybe. Say you have a Dad. You grew up with Dad, had a pretty good relationship, and things were good. Then, one day you cussed at him, took some money from his wallet, and peeled off in your pickup truck. As you drove down the road, first you were mad, adrenaline pumping. Once all that finally wore off, what did you feel? Shame? Regret? As the hours, days, weeks go on, that shame and regret builds into a wall between you and Dad. From your perspective, Dad is probably sitting in the man cave stewing over what you did to him. You are afraid a phone call would blow up into a whole ‘nother fight. You wouldn’t dare just drive back home and confront him face to face, even just to apologize. So, you stay away, avoid that street, and try to move on with your life. But imagine, what is Dad doing back at the house. When you left that night, he didn’t scream and curse as you drove away. Instead, tears flowed down his face. And instead of Dad stewing over what you did to him, every night he was down on his knees begging God to bring you home. Dad isn’t sitting in the man cave grumbling, he is sitting on the front porch waiting. He is waiting and praying that you come back home and restore the relationship. He waits for hours with his phone in his hand, ready to answer your call. He knows you got upset and made a mistake, but he forgives you. You are his precious child. He wants you to come home so he can hold you again. Dad isn’t going to force you to come back, he wants it to be your decision, but he hopes with all he has that you find your way back to him.
